Mountain sickness is suffered by many people who travel to the mountain regions. Travelers often face the problem of mountain sickness during the journey and it ruins their entire journey. Many travelers avoid the visit to mountain regions if they have already suffered lot due to mountain sickness.

Choosing the right place is essential for avoiding the problems arising due to mountain sickness. Several reasons are responsible for mountain sickness and it is better to collect detail information for curing the problem and avoiding the too long mountain journey.

Following are the ways to prevent mountain sickness:

  1. Many people face the problem in breathing because of the decreased density of oxygen content. As we go higher the atmospheric layer becomes thinner and oxygen molecules in each breathe decreases. The decrease in oxygen makes breathing for the person difficult. Person starts breathing faster and it becomes too tough to climb the hills and indulge in hiking.
  2. The pressure decreases as we go up on high altitudes. Travelers often do not feel the problem when they travel in vehicles like cars and vans. Usually the problem arises while doing physical labor like walking on hill. In airplanes there is no problem faced by the people. It is important to maintain your speed while climbing up the hill for avoiding the lack of oxygen in the body.
  3. The main reason behind the mountain sickness is the accumulation of the carbon dioxide in the body. Body is not adapted to deal with the increased level of carbon dioxide and the problem arises inside the body causing harms to various organs of the body. Carbon dioxide collects in the skull and even in the lungs causing nausea and headaches.
  4. The balance of the body gets disturb causing oedema disease. There is great risk of mountain sickness in places of altitude above 2500m. It is not necessary that person faces the problem of mountain sickness if the person is old or quite young. Anyone is likely to feel the problem of mountain sickness. People who climb too quickly face the problem of mountain sickness.
  5. If you are sleeping at higher altitude then it may cause harm and you are likely to get affected by the mountain sickness. Try to climb up the hill during day time and it is better to sleep at lower altitude. Consult doctor if you feel the symptoms.
